On Saturday, March 1, Clark College will host
the Regional High School VICA/Skills USA Machining and Welding Contest

VANCOUVER, Wash. – On Saturday, March 1, the torch will be passed to the next generation of welders and machinists as Clark College hosts, for the 31st consecutive year, the Regional High School VICA/Skills USA Machining and Welding Contest.

The competition will be held in the college’s machining complex in building AA-5, and the welding complex in building AA-2.    Located on the southeast corner of Clark’s main campus, the buildings are on McLoughlin Blvd. between Fort Vancouver Way and E. Reserve Street.   Parking will be available in the college’s orange parking lots.

Clark College President Robert K. Knight said, “Our welding technology and machining technology programs provide world-class facilities for this contest.  I hope that members of the community will to come out to the college to see some of the best young machinists and welders in our region.”

Machining Competition

Approximately 15 students from five local high schools take part in the machining contest.  The competition will begin at 9 a.m. in building AA5.  The top finishers will take the next step by advancing to the state contest.

Welding Competition

Battle Ground, Centralia, Evergreen, Mountain View, Prairie, and Washougal High Schools will be represented in the contest, which will take place in room 101 of building AA2.  It will begin at 7:30 a.m. and will finish mid-afternoon. Each school will be represented by five contestants as well as their instructor.  The top finishers will advance to the state contest and, possibly, the American Welding Society Exhibition in Las Vegas in October.
