Exceptional Classified Staff Awards (2006-2007)

Nell Gladson, Communications and Marketing

Nell Gladson

There is an old adage:  If you want to get something done, ask a busy person.  Nell Gladson proved that every day during her six years as a Communications Specialist at Clark College.

She contributed by overseeing production of the quarterly class schedule and the college catalog.  She also wrote news releases, researched articles for college newsletters, prepared PowerPoint presentations, coordinated college photography, flyers, brochure.

She also provided invaluable support to the annual Clark College Women's Conference, the annual Clark College-YWCA Women of Achievement celebration, the college's booth at the Clark County Fair, and commencement. She supported the college community by serving as an officer of the Association of College Employees (ACE).

The person who nominated Nell Gladson for the award noted that "Energy, enthusiasm, and passion are just three adjectives which describe Nell Gladson."

As she prepared to leave Clark College in June 2006, Nell Gladson summed up her experience -- as a Clark College student then staffer -- by saying, simply, “I love Clark College.”

A colleague in the Life Sciences Division of Clark College observed, "So many times within our daily routines, we overlook the cooperation, advice, and insight that our classified staff provides in making the college successful.  Lynn [Schinzing’s] personal commitment to excellence exceeds our expectations.  Lynn goes above and beyond the call of duty by meeting student’s needs, even when a faculty member may have forgotten about making arrangements for a makeup test."

In their nomination for the Exceptional Classified Staff award, her nominators wrote that their unit relies heavily on Lynn Schinzing for assisting faculty and students with class notification, instructor absences and general directions.  "Her skills go beyond the routine," they wrote.  "Lynn is diligent in her work and committed to completing her work even during inclement weather.  She is willing to work a full day and then return to take notes at an Advisory Committee meeting."

Another colleague praised Lynn Schinzing as "the 'public face' of the Life Science Division…many students have commented on Lynn’s very helpful and respectful manner when they come to the office with questions.  Lynn once commented that she tries to treat every student that walks through the door with the respect she would always want to see her own son or daughter treated."
