Cascadia Event January 11, 2008

39 Faculty and 1 Facilitator participated in the event.

Catherine facilitated a discussion about the shift from teaching to learning, highlighting how Cascadia adopted new roles for faculty and staff and established new boundaries at the college.

Group Discussion

Participants discussed how Cascadia made the shift from providing instruction to providing deep learning, and how Cascadia shifted from operating as a problem-solving organization to a learning organization. Participants then discussed and explored how this idea can be applied to make Clark a more Learning Centered College.

Conversation Cafe ~ Listening Salon January 13 and 28

39 Faculty, Staff, and Students and 1 Facilitator participated in the event.

Adjunct Theater Instructor Marcia McReynolds facilitated this Conversation Cafe which focused on learning the art of listening. Participants learned the principles of deep listening in the first hour and practice their skills by listening one-on one to each other in the second hour.

Collaborative Learning Institute January 25, February 8, 22, and 29

24 Faculty Members and 2 Facilitator participated in the event.

Facilitators Jennifer Farney and Suzanne Southerland helped 24 faculty members learn about learning-centered teaching. This will lead to a continuing exploration of instructional strategies that promote student engagement in the class as a vehicle to learn course content.
