A TRULY RANDOM ACT OF KINDNESS

Making the first day of classes a little sweeter for Clark students, the quarterly random assistance awards were handed out on Monday, April 2 to unsuspecting bookstore patrons.

The Clark College Alumni Association random assistance award provides gift cards to Clark students as they purchase their textbooks and class supplies at the college bookstore.

Among the bearers of good news to Clark students were (from left): Sherry Parker, class of ’83 and Clark College trustee; Shirley Sackman, retired faculty member; Nancy Simmons, Foundation staff member; Karen Varkados, iQ Credit Union; Interim President Bob Knight; Gary Oyer, Foundation staff member; and Bruce Gateley, class of ’72 and alumni board member.

A truly random act of kindness, sponsored by the Clark College Alumni Association and funded by Clark alums, this program began in 2003 and has awarded more than $8,000 in bookstore gift cards to Clark students.

For spring quarter, the random assistance team handed out 44 gift cards totaling $1,100 in assistance.

Clark College Interim President Bob Knight personally hands a gift card to a surprised and delighted Clark student.
