LEADERSHIP BY THE BOOK

Michelle Bagley, president of the Oregon Chapter
of the Special Libraries Association (ORSLA),
is the new Director of Library Services at Clark College

Clark College Director of Library Services Michelle BagleyVANCOUVER, Wash. — Michelle Bagley, a regional leader in library services and programs, has been named Director of Library Services at Clark College’s Lewis D. Cannell Library.  Bagley has more than 16 years of experience in management, customer service, and leadership.

Bagley, who resides in Portland, previously served as librarian and portal administrator for Western Culinary Institute in Portland. From 2000 to 2004, she worked for Powell’s Books as a buyer and in-store computer support specialist. Her managerial experience includes B. Dalton Bookseller and Pier 1 Imports.   She assumed her new position at Clark College on April 1.

“I am delighted to have the opportunity to work with the dedicated group of professionals at the Lewis D. Cannell Library,” said Bagley.  “Academic libraries are inspirational places. On a daily basis we encounter students, faculty, and staff all with a wide range of needs and abilities. Each meeting presents an opportunity to connect them to information to teach a skill, answer a question, or solve a problem. My goal for the future of the Cannell Library is to cultivate an environment that unites the academic and the social spheres of the college.”

Michelle Bagley received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Business Administration at Minot State University (ND). She earned her master’s degree in Library Science (MLS) from Emporia State University (KS).

Bagley has assumed leadership roles in both her professional and personal lives, serving on several professional association committees, assisting in the foundation of a community-based advisory board to support local literacy initiatives and participating on many organizational committees.

She is the current president of the Oregon Chapter of the Special Libraries Association (ORSLA), having been nominated as president-elect in 2006.  Her involvement with ORSLA includes representing the chapter at Special Libraries Association (SLA) meetings.  In addition, Bagley is serving as the co-chair of continuing education programming for SLA’s Leadership and Management Division and is the co-chair elect for SLA’s Education Division.
