Clark College’s International Programs viewbook will be honored
at a national design conference in Austin, Texas

VANCOUVER, Wash. -- Clark College’s new International Programs viewbook has received an award of excellence in the 2006 design competition of the University and College Designers Association (UCDA). Out of 1,600 entries nationwide, just 143 awards were given.

Wei ZhuangClark College's Lead Graphic Designer Wei Zhuang will accept the award at UCDA’s 36th Annual Design Conference in Austin, TX on September 16.  The winning artwork from the 2006 design competition will be on display throughout the conference.

Erin Morgan, Interim Director of International Programs, worked collaboratively with her staff including Lynne Toh, Associate Director of International Recruitment, and Susan Taylor, International Student Advisor, on the ideas and text that comprise the new International Programs viewbook.  Morgan noted, “I am so appreciative of Wei’s ability to take our ideas and needs and make them into something that conveys those ideas in a visually appealing way.  Our viewbook is unique and people want to look beyond the front cover; that was our goal and Wei made that happen.”

Director of Marketing Brian Scott assisted with the text for the viewbook and college photographer Ian Beckett provided the photos.  Zhuang, who resides in Vancouver, designed the viewbook to appeal to students from other countries.  It was designed exclusively for international students and was a hit when the college’s international recruiter traveled overseas.

Clark College acting CEO Bob Knight said, “UCDA's membership includes designers from colleges and universities across the country so the competition extended beyond community colleges.  This award is especially impressive because many institutions hire professional design firms to create their work so our international viewbook was competing not only against the work from staff members at other colleges and universities but also against those done by professional design firms.”

Zhuang said, “I feel fortunate to be able to work in an environment where there are many talented individuals who are eager to provide assistance in order to make a project successful. Winning this award is certainly an honor for me but I think, more importantly, it increases the exposure of Clark College in many ways, which is priceless.”

UCDA was founded in 1970 as the nation’s first and only association for professionals involved in the creation of visual communications for educational institutions. Over the years, it has grown to an organization comprised of more than 1000 members throughout the United States and Canada.
