CLARK COLLEGE HONORS OCTOBER'S
ATHLETES OF THE MONTH
Women’s cross-country runner Danielle Hutchison
and men's soccer player Whit Parker
are honored for their contributions to their teams
VANCOUVER, Wash. – A freshman runner and a sophomore goalkeeper have been honored as the October 2006 "Athletes of the Month" at Clark College.
Danielle Hutchison, a freshman cross-country runner who came to Clark College from Evergreen High School, has consistently been Clark College’s number one runner and is in the top five in the Northwest Athletic Association of Community Colleges (NWAACC) conference. Her personal record this year was 18:58 in a 5k at the Willamette Invitational on September 30.
Coach Dave Caldwell notes that, “Not only has she entered into the top-10 in school history as a freshman, but she has brought her teammates with her. From day one Danielle has had a bull’s-eye on her back, but her toughness and resilience have kept her in the front.” Hutchison, who was the 4A district champion last year, is pursuing an AA degree at Clark College. She hopes to transfer and continue her running career at a four-year sch
ool.
The Clark College men’s soccer team won the 2006 Southern Region Championship and goalkeeper Whit Parker played an important part in that championship season. A graduate of Mountain View High School, Parker is currently ranked third in the Northwest Athletic Association of Community Colleges with six shutouts and a record of 30-2-3 in a Clark College uniform.
Coach Ian Lefebvre says that Parker’s “outstanding play as a goal keeper has elevated the play of his team. We know he will continue his contributions as the Penguins head into the playoffs.” Whit Parker is completing his AA degree and hopes to transfer to a four-year college or university.
