During its 2007 session, the Washington State Legislature provided funding for the $27 million project, which will be located on a 9.5 acre site in the Columbia Tech Center development. 

Columbia Tech Center is a 375-acre blend of offices, retail businesses, and light industry.

CONSTRUCTION UPDATE:  The aerial photo above was taken on April 26, 2008. The concrete slab has been poured on the second floor, third floor, and roof decks at the west (left) end of the building, located in Zone 1.  The steel deck supporting the concrete slab on the second floor of Zone 2 has been laid down.  At the east (right) end of the Zone 2 structural steel, shown erected in the photo above, are the central stairway, the mechanical penthouse, and the fourth floor conference room.  Structural steel for Zone 3 has been staged behind the building and will be erected during the first two weeks in May.

The column is 55 feet tall, and the crane has a 200-foot boom.
      

As of April 4, 2008, the primary steel for the western third of the building is in place, and the contractor is using cables (visible between the ground and the first level of horizontal steel) to pull the steel into alignment.  (See the photos above and below.)

Located at 18700 SE Mill Plain Boulevard, Clark College at Columbia Tech Center will house 18 classrooms, eight science and computer labs, a 3500-square-foot multipurpose area for conferences, offices for faculty and support staff, and parking for 393 vehicles. 

Scheduled to open in fall of 2009, Clark College at Columbia Tech Center will offer general education classes, professional and technical training, basic skills classes, workforce development and personal enrichment courses. 

LSW Architects, based in Vancouver, won the design contract for the facility.  With increased natural lighting, large projection-screen displays, acoustics, and ergonomic furnishings, the building will be environmentally friendly, exceeding state-mandated certification from the U.S. Green Building Council's Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design (LEED) program.  Todd Construction of Tigard, Oregon is the contractor for the project.
