Clark College honored as a military friendly school 

The college has received the designation
for the third consecutive year
for its commitment to serving members
of the military, veterans and spouses

VANCOUVER, Wash. – Clark College has been named to the 2013 Military Friendly Schools ® list, honoring the top 15 percent of colleges, universities and trade schools that “are doing the most to embrace America’s military service members, veterans, and spouses as students and ensure their success on campus.” 

It is the third consecutive year that the college has received the honor. The college serves more than 700 veterans each year. 

“Inclusion on the 2013 list of Military Friendly Schools ® shows Clark College’s commitment to providing a supportive environment for military students,” said Sean Collins, Director for G.I. Jobs and Vice President at Victory Media.  The nomination noted that Clark College has an office with a full-time certifying official and that many faculty and staff, including President Robert K. Knight, have served in the military.  The nomination also reflected “excellent support in the greater community and with veterans organizations, including a Veterans Administration hospital across the street from the main campus.”

Veterans Affairs Program Specialist Mike Gibson is a member of several national accredited veterans organizations including Disabled American Veterans (DAV), the American Legion and 40 et 8 (40 & 8). Gibson said, “Our veterans return to civilian life with a wide range of valuable technical and leadership skills. We are committed to supporting them as they transition back to civilian life and become a valued part of our workforce and our community.”

Clark College President Robert K. Knight noted, “We owe so much to the men and women who serve in our military and to their families. They have served us with distinction. It’s our privilege to serve them.”

Now in its fourth year, the 2013 list of Military Friendly Schools ® was compiled through extensive research and a data-driven survey of more than 12,000 VA-approved schools nationwide. The survey tabulation process, methodology and weightings that comprise the 2013 list were independently verified by Ernst and Young LLP.   Each year schools taking the survey are held to a higher standard than the previous year via improved methodology, criteria and weightings developed with the assistance of an Academic Advisory Board (AAB) consisting of educators from schools across the country.  A full list of board members can be found at www.militaryfriendlyschools.com/board.
