Clark College Honors Student Athletes of the Month

Student athletes Farrine Scott and Lucas Swanson are honored
for their leadership on Clark’s basketball teams

VANCOUVER, Wash. – Two talented freshmen who helped lead their teams to the Northwest Athletic Association of Community Colleges (NWAACC) championships have been named the February 2011 Clark College Student Athletes of the Month. Farrine Scott and Lucas Swanson were each honored for their positive attitude and commitment to excellence.

Farrine ScottAccording to women’s basketball head coach Nancy Boone, Farrine Scott came to the Penguins after the team lost players due to injuries. A graduate of Ridgefield High School, Scott played 10 games, averaging 64% from the free throw line and 53% from the field.

Boone said, “Farrine was a key component in Clark's return to the NWAACC tournament and always displayed a positive attitude and coachable spirit.  She is a two-sport athlete, excelling in both basketball and softball, all while maintaining a 3.15 grade point average (GPA).”

Lucas SwansonA graduate of Mountain View High School, Lucas Swanson excelled at the NWAACC tournament, averaging more than 19 points, six rebounds, and two steals per game.  Head coach Mike Arnold said, “Lucas is the ideal athlete for any coach.  Over the course of the season, Lucas has been asked to improve his defense, become a pure shooter, and work on his passing.  With each day, all three categories saw constant improvement.”

Arnold added, “Lucas is expected to continue to improve his game in the offseason and come back for the 2011-2012 season as an even larger contributor to this basketball team.  He has demonstrated hard work in the classroom as well, posting a 3.66 GPA.”

The Student Athlete of the Month program recognizes both the academic and athletic achievements of Clark’s student athletes.  Two recipients are selected each month by a committee that includes Clark College coaches, athletic department personnel, and fellow students.

Each honoree receives a jacket with his or her name embroidered on it. The jackets are provided by Les Schwab through its support of the “Student Athlete of the Month” program, in partnership with Clark’s Penguin Athletic Club and the Clark College Foundation.
