The acclaimed discussion series will conclude its 2009-2010 series
with presentations on coping with anxiety, sexuality and communication, and schizophrenia.

VANCOUVER, Wash. – Clark College’s acclaimed “Mental Health Mondays” series will conclude its 2009-2010 series with three outstanding presentations.

On Monday, May 10, Dr. Michael Brooke will focus on sexuality and communication.   Dr. Brooke is a licensed psychologist.  He provides diagnosis and treatment for couples and individuals ages 18-100 experiencing a sexual disorder. Dr. Brooke also addresses relationship distress resulting from emotional and sexual affairs.  Dr. Brooke received his graduate training at Rutgers University and did his internship at the Portland Veterans Affairs Medical Center.  He is a member of the American Association of Sexuality Educators, Counselors, and Therapists (AASECT).

On May 17, the series will continue with “Coping with Anxiety” and guest speaker Sheela Choppala-Nestor, Ph.D.  Dr. Choppala-Nestor has a background both as a direct service provider and educator. She received her nurse practitioner training at Oregon Health & Science University and her doctorate in nursing from the University of Washington. She served as an educator in the psychiatric nurse practitioner specialty at Washington State University where she also engaged in research in both mental health and community health.

The 2009-2010 series will conclude on May 24 with a presentation of the film, “Out of the Shadows: Schizophrenia.”   Following the film, a discussion will be led by Judy VanPatten, LMHC.  VanPatten, a professor and counselor at Clark College, established the Mental Health Mondays to provide information and support about topics of interest to members of the college community and the region.

“Mental Health Mondays” discussions take place from noon to 1 p.m. in the Penguin Student Lounge, located in the college’s Penguin Union Building.  Clark College’s main campus is located at 1933 Fort Vancouver Way, Vancouver.  All events are free and open to the public.  Driving directions and parking maps are available at www.clark.edu/maps.
