Interim Athletic Director Dennis Huston

VANCOUVER, Wash. –  Clark College is celebrating its 75th anniversary by welcoming back a popular alum.  Dennis Huston has returned to his alma mater to serve as interim athletic director.

As a student, Dennis Huston served as president of the Associated Students of Clark College and was an all-star member of the 1960-61 Penguin basketball team.  After graduating from Clark in 1961, Huston earned his master’s degree from Western Washington University.  He returned to Clark and served as assistant and, subsequently, head basketball coach for four years.

Future coaching positions took him to the University of Washington, University of Wyoming, and Stanford University. After serving as head basketball coach at Weber State University in Utah, Huston retired from coaching in 1991.

Huston, who resides in Camas, has continued his ties to Clark College by serving on the boards of the Clark College Foundation and the Penguin Athletic Club, which he helped to establish. In 2005, Huston received the college’s Outstanding Alumni Award.

Clark College President Robert K. Knight said, “Dennis Huston is a legend – here at Clark College and throughout our region.  His commitment to the college has been unwavering from his time as a student to joining the college staff.  He continues to be a passionate supporter of the college and stepped up again to serve as our interim athletic director.”

Knight added, “In so many ways, Denny’s presence at the college at this time in our history really captures the theme of our 75th anniversary:  preserve the past, honor the present and embrace the future.”

As interim athletic director, Huston succeeds Lisa Quednow-Bickler, who recently relocated from Southwest Washington.
