AN ELLINGTON INTROSPECTIVE:
THE MUSIC OF DUKE ELLINGTON

The Clark College Jazz Ensemble welcomes guest conductor Ron Carter
in a musical celebration of Black History Month

Duke EllingtonVANCOUVER, Wash. – In celebration of Black History Month, the Clark College Jazz Ensemble and Clark College Office of Student Life and Multicultural Student Affairs will present “An Ellington Introspective – the Music of Duke Ellington,” with guest conductor Ron Carter, Midwest Coordinator and consultant for the Jazz at Lincoln Center Essentially Ellington Competition and Director of the Jazz at Lincoln Center Band Director Academy. 

The concert will take place on Wednesday, February 27, 2008, at 7:30 p.m. in Gaiser Hall on the Clark College campus.  Clark College is located at 1933 Fort Vancouver Way, Vancouver.

Ron CarterRon Carter is Coordinator of the Jazz Studies Program at Northern Illinois University and director of the world-renowned NIU Jazz Ensemble.  In addition to his work with the New York Jazz at Lincoln Center, Carter also serves as director of the Gallery 37-South Shore Cultural Center Summer Youth Jazz Ensemble in Chicago, and is a member of the Philadelphia National Jazz Curriculum Project-Miles 2001, St. Louis.  

He has presented workshops as guest conductor, artist, clinician, and adjudicator at numerous high schools, universities, and colleges as well as many prestigious regional and national conferences throughout the country.  

Ron CarterAn abbreviated list of his honors and awards includes Downbeat Magazine’s Jazz Educator’s Hall of Fame, The Woody Herman Music Award (Birch Creek Music Center), the 1991 National Distinguished Educator Award, Southern Illinois University Excellence in Teaching Award, and the St. Louis American newspaper’s Excellence in Teaching Award.  In 2006, he was elected vice-president for the International Association for Jazz Education. Ron Carter is currently a Conn Instrument Artist Clinician/Educational Specialist for United Musical Instruments (UMI), U.S.A., Inc., Elkhart, Indiana.

“An Ellington Introspective – the Music of Duke Ellington,” is the third concert of the Clark College Jazz Ensemble's "jazz@clark" performance series and is free and open to the public.
