Resources for Model United Nations

American Model United Nations and National Model United Nations provide students the opportunity to become delegates in conferences and meetings simulating the workings of the real United Nations. Both web sites are packed with research information.

Added 10/19/2005: Resources for Fall 2005 for Paraguay, Nigeria

  • ProQuest now includes Ethnic NewsWatch and Alt-Press Watch databases. You may limit your search to these specific databases. Use the country name and issue as keywords, for example: Nigeria and "human rights" Newest articles are listed first.
  • Europa World Year Book. Cannell Library has the 2004 edition (sorry, print only, not available online)
    Call number: Ref JN1 .ZE855 2004. The 2005 edition is available at WSU-Vancouver. Photocopy the chapters for Paraguay and Nigeria and take them with you!
  • US Department of State: Nigeria (updated August 2005), Paraguay (Updated September 2005)
  • African Studies: Nigeria. Follow link to sources such as Nigeria, Politics and Human Rights to find press releases, reports, briefing papers, etc.
  • NEPAD: The New Partnership for Africa's Development.
  • nationmaster.com. Includes profile information, but the bonus is the "Make Your Own Graph" feature at the top of the page. Allows you to create a graph comparing many types of statistics with one or more other countries.
  • Electionworld.org. Elections around the world.
  • BBC Country Profiles. Thorough details cover history, politics and ecomonic background; includes video and audio clips. After you select a country, be sure to follow the links on the right side of the screen.
  • Current History: A Journal of Contemporary World Affairs. This print journal is shelved in the periodicals stacks. In the back of each issue is the month in review by country.

Use the Online Catalog to locate books. For more precise searches, use Subject Search with terms from the Library of Congress Subject Headings (red books).

Constitutions of the World

Provides excerpts and histories of the constitutions 80 countries. Check out the comparative table on pages xvi-xxi.

This book is the one with the great background information and up-to-date statistics about each country.

Call number: Ref E 839.5 .H57 2000 (latest). Published annually, each volume includes reports, speeches, court decisions, statements, and other documents of significance, both U.S. and international.
