Cannell Library Chimes is an electronic resource for information and ideas to support teaching and learning at Clark College.
Number 6, March 7, 2002
Cannell Library recently added two electronic resources:
It's Survey Time!
Cannell Library is currently conducting the annual Student/User Evaluation of Resources and Services. Surveys are available in hard copy at the library, but library users may also submit the survey electronically (also available from the Library Home Page). Please encourage students to help make a difference by taking a few minutes to complete a survey. Last year, in response to survey results, the library adapted an existing area to make an additional group study room.
Heads Up for Spring Quarter Reserves
Cannell Library will be closed for Quarter Break on March 22 at 4:30 and reopen at 8:00 AM April 1. During this time, faculty or staff may access the library by ringing the back door buzzer -- but please call first to make sure someone is available to open the door (x2152, x2329, or x2255).
Please avoid the "reserves rush"! Staff will be available during Spring Break to process your reserves for Spring quarter, so requests submitted by March 28 will be available for students on April 1. Cannell Library's new electronic reserves system is very popular with students, but you may continue to place reserves the traditional way. For more information about reserves, including appropriate forms, please visit Reserve Materials Procedures, call Krista Reichard (x2553), or email Krista.
Congratulations, Amy Waite!
Congratulations to Amy Waite, Circulation Supervisor at Cannell Library, for being nominated for the 2001-2002 Altrusa Library Service Award. Amy was recognized at the "Celebration of Libraries" on February 7, 2002, which was attended by 60 library staff and others from throughout Clark County. Dr. Mike Eisenberg, Dean of the Information School at the University of Washington, delivered the keynote address, "The Future of Libraries," as well as the pre-award Information Literacy Workshop.
Remarked one of Amy's colleagues, "I have learned so much from working with Amy. She is friendly, she's a great teacher, and she's fair to everyone. She's very organized too, which is good because in circulation you have to keep records of everything."
Many thanks to Leonoor Ingraham-Swets, Cannell Library Director, who initiated what will be an annual event. Celebration of Libraries was a cooperative effort between Cannell Library, Ft. Vancouver Regional Library System, WSU-Vancouver, and Altrusa International, an organization whose goal is worldwide literacy.
