A generous gift brings smiles to Clark’s dental hygiene program

What:

Members of the dental industry in Southwest Washington have been invited to an open house for Clark’s new dental hygiene simulation lab.

The lab features individual working stations and adjustable stools for students.  The need for additional lab space and time was raised as accreditation requirement during a site visit by the Commission on Dental Accreditation in May 2010.  Students will begin to use the lab in winter quarter 2012.

When:

Monday, Nov. 14 from 3:30-7:00 p.m.

The big picture:

For the second time this year, a major project at Clark College was possible because of a public-private partnership. The college provided $60,000 through its RMI process.  Repair and Minor Improvement (RMI) funds are capital dollars intended for long-term well-designed repairs and minor improvements to state-owned facilities.  The dental hygiene program provided an additional $10,000.

The bulk of the funding – $113,445 – came from the Roy and Virginia Andersen Endowment Fund at the Clark College Foundation and was essential to completion of the lab. Future plans for the dental hygiene program – including a transition from film x-rays to digital – will also require a public-private partnership.

Earlier this year, the Oliva Family Early Learning Center opened its doors at Clark College.  Construction was only possible because donor funds matched state dollars.

Where:

The lab is located in Room 125 of Clark’s Health Sciences Building. Clark College is located at 1933 Fort Vancouver Way, Vancouver.  Driving directions and parking maps are available at www.clark.edu/maps.
