Batter Up: Clark College Honors Student Athletes of the Month
Student athletes Taylor Dunn and Erica Sturm are honored
for their leadership on Clark’s baseball and softball teams
VANCOUVER, Wash. – Taylor Dunn and Erica Sturm have been named the April 2011 Clark College Student Athletes of the Month.
Freshman pitcher/outfielder Taylor Dunn came to Clark from Lake Oswego High School. He went 3-1 in the month of April. Head baseball coach Don Freeman described Dunn as “the Penguins’ work horse logging 38 innings in that time frame.” During that time, Dunn’s only loss came against Centralia, where he pitched a nine-inning complete game, giving up just five hits.
Head softball coach Kasey Powers says Erica Sturm is a utility player in the truest sense. Along with her solid hitting, which includes her first college home run and four RBIs, Sturm has been asked to play center field, shortstop and second base. “Erica’s ability to be able to play just about anywhere on the field has made her invaluable to the lady Penguins this year.” said Powers. Sturm, who is from Battle Ground, has also excelled in the classroom with 3.0-plus grade point average (GPA). She will soon graduate with an associate degree.
The Student Athlete of the Month program recognizes both the academic and athletic achievements of Clark’s student athletes. Two recipients are selected each month by a committee that includes Clark College coaches, athletic department personnel, and fellow students.
Each honoree receives a jacket with his or her name embroidered on it. The jackets are provided by Les Schwab through its support of the “Student Athlete of the Month” program, in partnership with Clark’s Penguin Athletic Club and the Clark College Foundation.
