FALL 2009 ~ Taking the Plunge: Identifying and Applying Active Learning in the Curriculum

The Teaching and Learning Center is pleased to once again focus on strengthening learning centered teaching strategies.  We are committed to cross-disciplinary dialogue as the foundation for curriculum innovation that is consistent with the goals of each individual class.

This fall’s institute will establish a framework which will enable flexible outcomes according to individual interest and needs, including:

  • Identifying specific ways to integrate active learning principles into your courses
  • Demonstrating examples of  successes, obstacles, and residual benefits of active learning applications
  • Providing opportunities to “test-drive” active learning concepts

The Institute will be held during three 2.5 hours sessions to be held on alternate Fridays:  October 23 in Clark Dining Room, November 6, and November 20 from 10:30 am - 1:00 pm in Gaiser Hall room 213.  All full-time and part-time faculty at Clark are invited to participate in this institute.  Full-time faculty receive  PPAC credit toward advancement on the salary scale; part-time faculty are paid $31.30 per hour of attendance.  Paperwork to initiate pay for this event will occur at the conclusion of the institute.  Space is limited to 30 participants on a first-come, first-served basis.

If you would like to join us for these 3 days of professional development, please reply using the attached form.  By sending in your form you are committing to:

  • Actively participate in all three 2.5 hour sessions
  • Complete readings and assignments prior to the institute

Please submit your Registration Form to Melissa Payne by October 9, 2009, to mpayne@clark.edu, 992-2516, or send to mailstop GHL 206).  If you have questions or concerns, please contact us at: tlc@clark.edu or visit our website at www.clark.edu/tlc.
