A Time for Evaluation, Reflection and Learning

Clark College will be closed to the public on Friday, October 7 so that all employees will have time to meet and reflect on  the transformations taking place in all areas of Clark College. Faculty will engage in the important work of Outcomes Assessment, while classified, administrative, and exempt employees will have time for the professional development activities listed in the schedule. 

Plan your own schedule and attend those sessions that most interest you. Pre-registration is required for only a few sessions listed below. Click through the session titles to register online.

Happy Brain Science -- 8:30 - 9:45 a.m. - OR - 2:15 - 3:30 p.m.

Canvas Basics - 1:00 - 2:00 p.m.
presented by Kathy Chatfield
Canvas is becoming a go-to tool for many college activities – department communication, committee work, and most recently for ctcLink/MyClark training. This hands-on workshop focuses on the basic functions of the Canvas Learning Management System for non-course/teaching use. 

Excel Fundamentals -- 8:30 - 9:45 a.m.
presented  by Gracie White, Clark IT Services
In PeopleSoft, part of myCLARK’s ctcLink project, you can export data to Excel. Transform your Excel skills into skill that will be useful for the work you will do in PeopleSoft.  This is basic to intermediate class for those who need a refresher or updating, especially with pivot tables. Note: This session will not be demonstrating PeopleSoft.

How Do I Mail Merge? -- 2:15 - 3:30 p.m.
presented by Gracie White, Clark IT Services
In PeopleSoft, part of myCLARK’s ctcLink project, many communications rely on mail merge capabilities.  In this session you will learn how to create a mail merge template in MS Word.  Also, you will learn to merge data from Excel,  SQL, or other data sources.  Results can then be printed or emailed. Note: This session will not be demonstrating PeopleSoft.

Learning and Assessment Day FAQs:

  1. Sounds great! How do I sign up?

    Except for the Happy Brain Science workshop and a few others, there is no registration required for Learning and Assessment Day sessions (see above).  The first workshops begin at 8:30 and you are invited to attend the sessions of your choice based on your interests and professional development needs. If you encounter a workshop that fills to capacity, you will be asked to go to your second or third choice.

  2. Are all college offices and departments closed on October 7?

    There are no classes in session on October 7, and business offices will be closed to the public.  However, there may be some service areas still operating.  This means employees in some departments will have to work with their supervisors to arrange to attend at least some of the sessions.

  3. May part-time employees attend?

    Yes, part-time employees are encouraged to work with their supervisors to schedule attendance.

  4. Is this really a mandatory event?
    Yes, all full-time administrative, exempt and classified staff are required to attend department meetings and workshops throughout the day.  Part-time staff will work with their supervisor to plan attendance.
