Clark College participates in and hosts a number of service-projects each year. Here is a list of upcoming service projects in need of volunteers.
Service-Learning Faculty Lunch Exchange
Wednesday, April 23rd
12:00-2:00pm ~ TLC
Faculty are invited to discuss/present on service-learning projects, exchange ideas and information with colleagues and mentor new faculty using service-learning. This will be the perfect opportunity for experienced faculty to share their expertise and highlight service-learning projects used, as well as for new faculty to generate ideas on how to implement service-learning in the future.
Clark College Career Clothing Closet
Thursday, May 1st 10:00-2:00pm & Friday, May 2nd 10:00-2:00pm
Penguin Student Lounge, PUB 161
Help our students dress for success for job interviews! The goal of the event is to outfit Clark College students with professional or career clothes for job interviews. Donate gently used professional clothes to outfit students for the upcoming career fair and interviews. Donations will be accepted starting mid-April; please watch for upcoming announcements. We have scheduled the event over two days, both day and evening, to accommodate more students’ schedules. Please announce this important event to your students! To volunteer at this event or to lend us a coat rack for the 2-days, please contact Jody Shulnak at jshulnak@clark.edu or x2447.
World Café: Intergenerational Dialogue
Thursday, May 8th
3:30-5:00pm ~ Penguin Student Lounge, PUB 161
World Café conversations are an intentional way to create a living network of conversation around questions that matter. A Café Conversation is a creative process for leading a collaborative dialogue, sharing knowledge and creating possibilities for action in groups of all sizes. Clark College students, teens and elders are invited to attend to participate in structured conversation focused on common worries for the future and how members of society can better work together to create more mutual understanding.
Spring into Action! ~ Spring service events
Monday, May 12th – Wednesday, May 14th
The Service-Learning Program and the Service and Leadership in the Community Program have teamed up to organize a series of three spring service events:
SLIC’s Service Expo: Monday, May 12th 11:30-1:30pm: Come and check out the Service and Leadership in the Community Program’s highlights of service. There will be a slideshow capturing the years’ most memorable moments in community service as well as an overview of the accomplishments of the SLIC program. Highlights include the Fridays in the Community projects and the Habitat for Humanity Alternative Spring Break in Mt. Vernon! Located in Penguin Student Lounge
Oxfam Hunger Banquet: Tuesday, May 13th, 12:10-1:50pm: For some, banquet means lots of food. But for many, the only meal served is hunger. Feast or famine - it's the luck of the draw. An Oxfam Hunger Banquet is a banquet without much food. Each person attending is randomly assigned a role and will gain a new perspective about hunger and its’ root causes. Located in PUB 258 A & B
Community Health Fair: Wednesday, May 14th, 10-2:00pm: Join us for this great event and learn about health, wellness and fitness options in Clark County! Healthy cooking and fitness demonstrations will be conducted, as well as various health screenings and information about local health-related resources. The Community Health Fair will be a college-wide service-learning event to offer an engaging, “hands-on” service project in effort to maximize involvement from the college community. This event will be interdisciplinary and we would like for faculty and students across all disciplines to take part in the Community Health Fair. Located in Gaiser Student Center, Penguin Student Lounge and PUB 258 Conference rooms.
Service-Learning Recognition Ceremony
Thursday, May 29th
3:00-5:00pm ~ Clark Center at WSUV
This recognition ceremony is for those faculty, students and community partners who participate in Service-Learning. Student work will be highlighted, so please keep student reflection papers (ask permission to use excerpts) and let me know of any photo opportunities to be included in a slideshow. If you used service-learning in a past course from the 2007-08 school year, that work can be highlighted also. I would like to have comments from students, community partners and faculty both written and spoken at the event, so please let me know if you have something to contribute. Due to space and budget limitations, we will not be able to have all of your students at the event. However, we will be able to have at least one student from each of your classes attend. Keep an eye out for who you would like to invite!
Sorry, there are no Service Learning events scheduled at this time.
Are you a community organization looking to partner with the Service-Learning Program for an event? Opportunities for Involvement is a complete list of yearly service opportunities.
Please e-mail the Service-Learning Program Manager at service_learning@clark.edu to post an up-coming service project.
