2009 Season in Review
This years Penguin Softball team was the youngest team not only in the South Region but the entire NWAACC. Despite their lack of college experience, this team had plenty of softball knowledge. From the first day of fall practice through the last day of the season, these athletes worked hard and pushed each other. Even though the athletes did not reach their top three goals that they had set for themselves, this was still the most successful season of this very young program.
Some of the records that were set by the 2009 softball team were most wins (19), most total runs scored (208), team batting average(.299) and most home runs (25). The most impressive accomplishment by this team was the eleven (11) game improvement in wins. The future of the Penguin Softball program looks very bright, with the majority of the 2009 team returning next year with a years experience and knowledge of what it will take to get to the next level of success. Also with the addition of the incoming freshmen class, there will be plenty of depth next year and many players competing for starting positions as well as playing time, which will continue to make the team stronger.
The key to next year will be to remember: “Without Struggle There is No Progress.” We will win and lose but we need to continue to make progress toward our team goals each and every day.
