Afenegus currently holds a United States Soccer Federation National “B” license. He is also a coach with Oregon Olympic Development Program.  According to Clark College Interim Director of Athletics Dennis Huston, “Biniam Afenegus is well respected in the regional soccer community and has been an outstanding addition to our staff. Biniam is committed to the educational as well as athletic goals of our student athletes. That is very important to the college as a whole, and a commitment that the athletic department has made to our students athletes.”  In 2007 Coach Afenegus was named NWAACC and SW Region coach of the year. 

Prior to becoming the head coach at Clark College, Afenegus spent nine years coaching high school and premier teams in the region.  He took a struggling high school program and turned them into a competitive and respected program. In just two years the program qualified for play offs and finished second in the class 3A of the great Saint Helens League. During that time he was named GSHL class 3A coach of the year. Afenegus has also won some state championships with premier teams in the region. Coach Afenegus has constantly build strong winning programs at each level he has coached at. 

Biniam was born in Eritrea (Africa). His family relocated to Spokane, WA when he was a child. Biniam was former all league player in high school and former USYSA regional player as youth player. He went on to attend Concordia University from 1995 to 1999 where he completed his bachelors degree in K-12 Physical Education and Health. While playing soccer at Concordia, he earned all league and all regional honors. Biniam earned his master’s degree in education from Concordia in 2003. Biniam is married to his beautiful wife Irene and they have three children, Ahmon, Elijah and Cierra.
