THE UNDERPANTS
by Steve Martin
November 2-17, 2007
In
"The Underpants," actor-writer Steve Martin adapted the 1910
social comedy by German playwright Carl Sternheim into a hilarious,
over-the-top farce centered on an unruly pair of knickers.
Louise is a pretty young housewife in turn of the century Germany, whose frilly pantaloons accidentally fall to her ankles while watching the Kaiser's parade, setting in motion a zany chain of events.
Martin's skewering insights and incomparable quips have evoked the rumbling laughter of recognition from audiences across the country. This play is chock-full of pure Steve Martin touches — broad-stroke physical comedy and exaggerated reactions — that sharpen the satiric edge and timeliness of Sternheim’s deliciously demented plot.
Steve Martin was of the recipients of the 2007 Kennedy Center Honors Award. Clark College was proud to host the Southwest Washington premiere of this play.

A STREETCAR NAMED DESIRE
by Tennessee Williams
May 2-17, 2008
In 1947, playwright Tennessee Williams won his first Pulitzer Prize for his masterpiece, "A Streetcar Named Desire." The play was named into an Academy Award winning film in 1951.
The play follows faded Southern belle Blanche DuBois as she visits her pregnant sister, Stella, in a seedy section of New Orleans. Stella's boorish husband, Stanley Kowalski, not only regards Blanche's aristocratic affectations with disdain but also believes that Blanche is keeping inheritance money that rightfully belongs to Stella.
On the fringes of sanity, Blanche is trying to forget her past and start life anew. Attracted to Stanley's friend Mitch, she glosses over the less savory incidents in her life but soon discovers that she cannot outrun her own past. The stage is set for her final, brutal confrontation with her brother-in-law.
