May 1 is the first day that new Running Start students can sign-up online for a summer orientation, if you plan to pay for a summer quarter class. Please do not sign-up for a summer quarter orientation if you are planning to start in the fall. However, if you have already tested for fall entry, qualified, brought your qualifying scores to the Running Start office, and notified Peg Estes that you plan to attend in the summer, then on May 1 or later go to www.clark.edu/orientationcalendar and choose an orientation date for summer quarter. You will register for classes as part of the orientation. Allow approximately 3 hours for the orientation and bring photo ID.

The aim of this hour-long seminar is to learn how to cultivate awareness and to engage in your life more fully on a daily basis. Venerable Bhikkhu Piya Uttamapunyo (…Piya‘) will present on mindfulness and meditation practices that can help us bring the insights from our practice to the field of daily life from a Theravada Buddhist perspective.

The mindfulness and meditation practices that Piya will focus on do not require any religious interpretations or commitments. No prior experience with meditation is necessary.

Piya was born in the Udon Thani province of Thailand and became ordained as a novice monk at the age of 12. Piya holds a Masters in Buddhist Philosophy and Ph.D. in Buddhist Studies from Magadh University in India and is a practicing monk of the Theravada Buddhist tradition. He is a resident monk and teacher at the Buddhist Meditation Center of Pittsburgh in Pennsylvania. He enjoys sharing about meditation and the Buddha's teaching in this area.
