Service Learning and the Clark College Bookstore have teamed to coordinate the 4th annual Seuss-a-Palooza Book Drive to benefit local kindergarteners.

Everyone is encouraged to come to the Clark College Bookstore and purchase copies of the book, Green Eggs and Ham ($6.85, plus tax) to be donated to kindergarteners at Fruit Valley and Harney Elementary Schools on Read Across American Day, March 2nd. This national event commemorates Dr. Seuss's birthday.

Come listen to an amazing civil rights leader and activist Hollis Watkins on Wednesday, February 8 from 11:30am to 12:30pm in Gaiser Student Center.

He presents a community wide sing along and stories from the civil rights movement.

Hollis Watkins continues the musical traditions of the civil rights movement in the struggle of today.

Having been sustained by music when he was hanging from handcuffs in a cell in Parchman prison in the 60's, Hollis includes the musical traditions of the civil rights movement into the struggle of today, making it part of his organizing and bringing its message to a new generation of activists.

Your ASCC proudly presents the Mayhem Poets, a group of three energetic poets out to change the world through the art of spoken word. These theatre-trained, comedically gifted, lyrical virtuosos seamlessly blend raw elements of hip hop, theatre, improv and stand-up comedy to tell gut wrenching truths that leave audiences forever changed.

The Mayhem Poets will be performing at Clark College on Tuesday February 21st, 2012 from 12pm-1pm in the Gaiser Student Center.

Refreshments will be available for all students attending.

We encourage everyone familiar or curious about the art of spoken word to come and hear the intriguing stories the Mayhem Poets bring to life.

The Office of Clark College Student Life is excited to invite you to hear from military veteran and local hero, Mr. Ozzie Harris. He and several historians will tell the story of the Tuskegee Airmen of World War II on Wednesday, February 22, 2012, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. in the Gaiser Student Center.

The Tuskegee Airmen were an elite group of African-American pilots in the WWII. They were pioneers in equality and integration of the Armed Forces.

The term Tuskegee Airmen refers to all who were involved in the Army Air Corps program to train African Americans to fly and maintain combat aircraft. This included pilots, navigators, bombardiers, maintenance and support staff, instructors and all the personnel who kept the planes in the air.

Speakers for this event include:

Ozzie Harris, a Tuskegee Airmen Institute Graduate and Communications Officer during WWII

Laureano Mier, the Pearson Air Museum Director

Norris Hibler, a historian of Tuskegee Airmen

Tommy Lamb, Tuskegee Airmen, Inc. Northwest Sam Bruce Chapter President

Lee Donham, Actor-Pilot from the 1996 movie Tuskegee Airmen

This event is open and free to all students, staff and community members.

The ASCC (Associated Students of Clark College) presents a lecture by Bill Carter and the screening of his award-winning documentary ’Miss Sarajevo“ on Monday, February 27th, 2012 from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. in the Gaiser Student Center.

Bill Carter is an award-winning documentary filmmaker, and journalist. His articles have been published in publications such as the Rolling Stone, Outside, Men‘s Journal, and SPIN.

In this presentation, Carter will share the story behind his humanitarian mission to Bosnia, and of the personal loss and connections that compelled him to help save the people of Sarajevo.

This event is open to all students.
