Clark College’s Communications and Marketing Department
earns top honors from the National Council
for Marketing and Public Relations
VANCOUVER, Wash. – Competing against other colleges from throughout the United States, Canada and other countries, Clark College earned top honors during the 2008 awards ceremony of the National Council for Marketing and Public Relations (NCMPR).
Clark College received a gold Paragon award, noting first place honors, for the 2007-2008 college catalog. The college earned a silver Paragon award for its 2006 annual report, “Connecting with Our Community.”
The awards were presented on March 11 during NCMPR’s annual conference in Savannah, Ga. Communications Specialist Erica Schwenneker and Director of Marketing Brian Scott accepted the awards on behalf of the college.
Schwenneker and Graphic Designer Pat McDonald oversaw the college catalog, working with Heather King, Peggy McClellan and Tyler Chen in the college’s Office of Instruction; Erin Morgan and Kathy Mitchell in the Registration Office; Kathi Paddy of Credential Evaluations; and Dr. Ray Korpi, Dean of Basic Education, English, Communications & Humanities.
In submitting the catalog for consideration, the college noted, “The Clark College 2007-2008 catalog provides a comprehensive list of all courses offered by the college, as well as degree, program and certificate information, for student use in planning their course of study. The catalog also outlines official procedures for student-related issues, including financial aid compliance, tuition & fees refund policies, the code of student conduct and admission and registration information.”
Executive Director of Communications and Marketing Barbara Kerr and Lead Graphic Designer Wei Zhuang coordinated the annual report, which was created in partnership with the Clark College Foundation. Foundation contributors to the annual report included President Lisa Gibert, Vice President of Development Ara Serjoie, Chief Financial Officer Barbara Chen and Special Projects Manager Shirley Schwartz. In fall 2007, the annual report earned a gold medallion in the regional NCMPR competition.
Kerr said, “Beyond capturing the facts that one would expect in an annual report, the publication was designed to celebrate the people, events and accomplishments of the college and its impact on students, businesses and the community, in keeping with the college’s vision and its emphasis on regional leadership.”
Clark College President Robert K. Knight said, “Both of these projects were created to celebrate our students, faculty and staff and our college as whole, as well as our role in the community. Being recognized among entries from some of the top colleges in the U.S. and Canada is a terrific accomplishment – for our Communications and Marketing department and for Clark College.”
In the past four years, members of the Clark College Communications and Marketing department have won 25 regional and national awards for their work.
