VANCOUVER, Wash. -- The Clark College Board of Trustees has unanimously approved a contract naming Robert K. Knight as president of the college.  The contract, which is effective August 3, 2007, runs through August 31, 2010 with an annual salary of $163,000.  The board voted unanimously to select Knight as president on May 21.

Board Chair Rhona Sen Hoss said, “All of us on the Board know that Bob Knight will lead the college with passion and integrity.  We know that Bob Knight will continue to move the college forward in support of our students and our community.”

Knight cited “a focus on students” as the primary focus for his presidency, with commitment to “a clear vision and mission, high standards, and a high sense of integrity and intellectual honesty.”  He said he was "committed to providing the best possible resources and environment for our faculty, staff, and administrators to support student learning and success."

Knight credited the college’s Executive Cabinet, faculty and staff for the accomplishments of the past year, during which he served as acting and interim president.  He noted, “Day in and day out, they are committed to supporting our students.”

With classes on its main campus in Vancouver’s Central Park, Clark College at WSU Vancouver and Clark College at Town Plaza, the college is the third largest of Washington’s community and technical colleges.  This fall, groundbreaking will be held for Clark College at Columbia Tech Center, the next step in the college’s efforts to enhance offerings to residents and businesses in the eastern portion of the college’s service district.  Clark College will celebrate its 75th anniversary on October 1, 2008, marking the launch of a year-long diamond jubilee celebration.

Knight was named interim president of Clark College in September 2006.  He had served as acting President of the college from July-September 2006.

Knight, who joined Clark College in 2004 as Vice President of Administrative Services, received his undergraduate degree in Engineering from the United States Military Academy at West Point and earned an Executive MBA at Golden Gate University in San Francisco.  He has done postgraduate work in Organizational Effectiveness at Chapman University in Fort Lewis, Washington.

He previously held positions as Executive Vice President for Sales and Service for a 200 member company in the dental industry and as Corporate Manager for Real Estate, responsible for $500,000,000 in real estate for Consolidated Freightways in the trucking industry.

Prior to his positions in private industry, Knight served over 21 years as an infantry officer in the U.S. Army retiring as a Lieutenant Colonel.  His secondary training as an officer is as a comptroller.   His last duty in the Army was as Commander of Vancouver Barracks in Vancouver, Washington.

He is active in the Southwest Washington community, having served as a member of the downtown Vancouver Rotary board, the Boys and Girls Club board, Congressman Brian Baird's military academy selection committee and as chair of the board of the Southwest Washington Chapter of the American Red Cross.
