Clark College received a certificate of appreciation from Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR) on Saturday, May 3, 2008.
The award recognizes the college’s commitment to the Guard and Reserve and, specifically, the tuition waiver given to veterans to attend Clark College. Dean of Enrollment Services Alex Montoya and Veterans Affairs Program Coordinator Mike Gibson attended the awards banquet on behalf of Clark College.
In addition to the waiver, Clark College has signed a statement of support for the Guard and Reserve, joining other employers in pledging that:
- The college will fully recognize, honor and enforce the Uniformed Services Employment and Reemployment Rights Act (USERRA).
- College managers and supervisors will have the tools they need to effectively manage employees who serve in the Guard and Reserve.
- The college will continually recognize and support our country’s service members and their families in peace, in crisis, and in war.
ESGR is a staff group within the office of the assistant secretary of defense for reserve affairs, a part of the office of the secretary of defense. Its mission is to “gain and maintain employer support for Guard and Reserve service by recognizing outstanding support, increasing awareness of the law, and resolving conflicts through informal mediation.”
