Clark College welcomes newest

tenured faculty member

Nursing professor Valerie Cline joins tradition of

excellence at Clark College

Valerie Cline, RN, MSNVANCOUVER, Wash. – The Clark College Board of Trustees approved tenure for nursing professor Valerie Cline RN, MSN at its meeting on June 12, 2013. Tenure is awarded by the college’s Board of Trustees based on professional excellence and outstanding abilities in their disciplines. Recommendations are based on self-evaluations, tenure review committee evaluations, student evaluations, supervisory evaluations, and peer evaluations. The final decision to award or withhold tenure rests with the Board of Trustees.

“Our tenured faculty members have a very special role at our college,” said Clark College President Robert K. Knight. “They are passionately committed to excellence and student success. They have made a career commitment to our college and our community.”

Cline is an alumna of Clark College, earning her associate degree in nursing from Clark College before earning a bachelor’s degree in nursing from Washington State University and a master’s degree from Walden University. She worked as a nurse at Adventist, Southwest Washington Medical Center, Providence St. Vincent and other medical facilities before beginning her teaching career.

A resident of Vancouver, Cline serves on the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) Standard 3 committee, the Nursing Readmission Committee, the Scholarship Committee at Clark College, and is the Student Nurse Association of Clark College (SNACC) Co-Director.

Cline said, “I believe in students taking an active role in the learning process, with the instructor as the facilitator who helps students bring all of the pieces together and link theory to practice. I value diversity in all of its forms and what diversity brings to the classroom. The instructor should be a good role model for professional, ethical behavior and encourage students to do their best.”
