Academic Probation
Students will be placed on academic probation if:
- they have earned twelve (12) or more cumulative GPA credits, and
- they have registered for six (6) or more credits in the specific quarter, and
- they have a cumulative GPA less than 2.00
Students place on academic probation will be sent a letter outline the conditions of their probation.
Academic Suspension
Students will be placed on academic suspension if:
- they have begun the quarter on academic probation, and
- they have registered for six (6) or more credits in the specific quarter, and
- they have earned less than a 2.00 GPA that quarter
Students placed on academic suspension will be sent a letter
outlining the conditions of their suspension. The student
will be suspended from Clark College for one (1) quarter following
the suspension notification and may choose to sit out
for that quarter or petition for immediate reinstatement.

Petition Process
for Immediate Reinstatement
Students who have received notice of academic suspension
may petition the Academic Standards Committee for immediate
reinstatement. Petition forms and guidelines for
immediate reinstatement eligibility are available in the
office of the Vice President of Student Affairs in PSU 006.
The committee meets on the third day of classes. Students
will be contacted by phone and mail following the committee’s
decision.
Reinstated students must meet all of the criteria described in
the following paragraph for students Returning from
Suspension.
Returning from
Suspension
Students returning from academic suspension will be
required to meet with Student Retention personnel prior to
registration for that quarter. The following rules apply to
students who return from academic suspension:
- They will remain on academic probation until both the quarterly GPA and the cumulative GPAare 2.00 or higher.
- They will be academically suspended again if, while they are on probation, the quarterly GPA falls below 2.00.
- They may be limited in the number of credits and/or courses they can take the quarter they return.
- They are required to meet with Student Retention personnel to develop an academic plan of study.
- They will return to good academic standing when both the quarterly GPA and the cumulative GPA are 2.00 or higher.
Students in certain professional/technical programs must receive grades of "C" or better in program core courses to advance in the program class sequences. Students should refer to the department description in Section C of the catalog for further information.
