Students who borrow Stafford Loans through the Federal Family Educational Loan Program are required to complete Entrance Counseling prior to receiving loan proceeds from their first loan. They are also required to complete Exit Counseling, using NELA’s Student Loan Transition Guide, shortly before graduating, transferring, withdrawing, or dropping below six credits.
In order to complete the loan counseling online, you will need to create a NELA User ID and Password. If you completed a Master Promissory Note (MPN) online with a Sallie Mae lender (Sallie Mae, Nellie Mae, Washington First, or Chase) you can use the User ID and Password that you created for your MPN. You will use the same login information for both the Entrance and Exit Counseling.
To create a login in for the first time, click on the appropriate counseling link below and then select, “New User? Please register.” If you cannot remember your User ID or Password, please click on the appropriate counseling link and select either “Forgot User ID?” or “Forgot Password?”.
