Before you apply
Admission is not guaranteed
- The Associate Degree Nursing Program is a two-year clinical program with preliminary requirements which must be completed before program entry. Completion of the pre-nursing requirements does not guarantee entrance into the program. The Nursing program has limited enrollment and Clark College reserves the right to determine admissions status.
Who should apply
- Caring, compassionate persons who demonstrate reliability, responsibility and respect for others possess traits that are essential for a nurse. It is beneficial to possess a strong aptitude for sciences, good problem solving skills and determination, as the Nursing program is a demanding and time consuming course of study. (Students must be eighteen years old to enter the clinical portion of the nursing program.)
Fees and program costs
There is a $50.00 non-refundable program application fee to apply for the Nursing program. Students who are new to Clark College must also pay a one-time non-refundable $20.00 application fee.
Accepted students must secure their position in the program with a payment of a conditionally refundable $200 deposit.

Criminal background check
All accepted Nursing students are required to complete and pass the FBI, WSP/OSP (depending on state of residence) criminal background check process. The criminal background check requires a fee and the applicant's social security number. Information about the criminal background check process is included in the acceptance letter.
Reasons for disqualification
Individuals with a criminal record may not be allowed into a healthcare facility as a student. Because it is not possible to meet the objectives of the program without having clinical experience, anyone with a positive criminal or abuse history may not be eligible for acceptance in the Nursing Program. In addition, Washington State Health Profession Quality Assurance (HPQA) and the Oregon State Board of Nursing (OSBN) require a criminal background check upon application for licensure. For more information on Washington and Oregon licensing requirements see, www.doh.wa.gov/hsqa/Professions/Nursing/default.htm or www.osbn.state.or.us.
Students may be asked to submit to a drug screen based on the health care facility where clinical rotations are assigned while in the program.
Healthcare systems require all nursing students to carry comprehensive (sickness and injury) health insurance. Students must have proof of insurance, sign a verification form, and have this health coverage throughout the nursing program.
