Course Information

The Human Development Department offers courses in four areas. Individual Course descriptions are available here.

Academic success classes emphasize study skills, critical reading, note taking, time management, decreasing math and test anxiety, and becoming familiar with graduation requirements and services at Clark College.

For students unable to take a College Success class, we offer Student Success Sessions on various topics such as note taking, time management, test anxiety, and stress management.

Career development classes range from Career Exploration to Workplace Success and include information gathering, decision making, career assessment, interviewing skills, portfolio development and workplace success.

Personal development classes emphasize self esteem and confidence building, assertion training, stress management, relationships, overcoming anxiety, communication skills and human relations.

Professional development classes emphasize work related skills. These include resume writing, portfolio development, co-operative work experience and workplace success.

Class Format
The faculty are committed to making the coursework available to all students by offering daytime, evening, Saturday, online, full-term and mid-term classes. Classes are also offered as independent study.

College-wide Abilities
Human Development classes primarily emphasize Life-long Learning, Communication, and Critical Thinking/Problem Solving College-wide Abilities, however Information/Technology is incorporated in our online and hybrid course formats and utilization of the resources in the Career Center for career research.

Degree Requirements
HDEV 155 Assertiveness, HDEV 123 Relationships, and HDEV 105 Self-esteem meet the Human Relations distribution requirements for the Associate of Applied Science (A.A.S.) degree.
