Do you enjoy helping others?
Become a Pathways Mentor!
Mentors help support ESL, ABE, and GED students who face a variety of academic and personal challenges. As a Pathways Mentor, you can be part of an exciting group of students encouraging students as they attend classes at Clark College at Town Plaza and transition to classes at Clark College’s main campus.
What are the benefits of being a Pathways Mentor?
- Meet new people
- Make connections with staff and students
- Strengthen your leadership and networking skills
- Gain experience for your résumé
- Earn course credit
From perspective-changing experiences through service learning, to hands-on knowledge gained, mentors greatly profit from the experience. Mentors who have previously served in the program report having built greater self-confidence, improved public speaking skills, and having gained better grasp of community resources.
Pathways mentors can identify more closely with students because they have experienced many of the same kinds of challenges other basic education students face, and can relate to students on a more personal level.
Clark College Pathways Peer Mentor Program aims include:
- Assisting students in gaining better access to support services,
- Providing basic education students the resources they need to stay in school and to achieve their academic, career and personal goals,
- Helping students transition successfully from basic education to main campus programs, and
- Increasing both student and mentor participation in college-wide service activities.
Eligibility Requirements
Clark College students who have been successful in ESL, ABE, or GED programs and/or who are first-generation college students are encouraged to apply.
