Outside the United States, student visas (F-1 and M-1) are issued by U.S. embassies and consulates. Students have to interview with a consular official, but most interviews are brief. These interviews are conducted in English, and you should prepare for the interview by being able to speak on the following topics:
- Why do you
wish to study in the United States?
- Can you show
that you have adequate funds to study in the U.S.?
- When do you plan to return to your home country?
Note: If you will be taking intensive English courses, you may request that your interview be conducted in your native language.
You will want to bring the following documents with you to your visa interview:
- I-20 immigration
document from Clark College
- Visa and
processing fee
- Passport
size photo
- Valid passport
- High school
transcripts, in English
- Completed
visa application form
- TOEFL score
(if available)
- Financial statements (for example: bank statements, tax records, proof of sponsorship, certificates of deposit)
Typical questions asked by U.S. consular officials during your interview might be the following:
- "Why
do you wish to study at Clark College in the U.S.?"
- "Who
is funding your education in the U.S.?"
- "Do
you have any family members in the U.S.?"
- "Why will you return home after your course of study in the U.S.?"
If you are denied
a visa: You may politely ask the consular official why your application
was denied, and you may also ask when you may reapply for a visa.
You should also contact us via e-mail at: international@clark.edu.
We may be able to assist you in clearing up some misunderstandings
with the consular officials.
