| Running Start |
(360) 992-2842
The Washington State Legislature approved legislation that
allows high school juniors and seniors an opportunity to take
college classes at local community colleges which will fulfill
high school graduation requirements, plus earn college credit.
Students are allowed to take only courses numbered 100 or
higher (transfer level) and they must take a writing, reading,
and math placement test prior to enrolling to verify that they
are eligible to take college-level courses. Eligible students
enroll in approved college courses tuition free; but fees, supplies,
books and transportation are the student’s responsibility.
Students interested in the Running Start program should first
contact their high school counselors to obtain general information
and to learn what the minimum high school grade point
average is for participation in the program. Students are
required to coordinate their admission into the program from
local, state-funded high schools. Students attending private or
home schools are therefore required to contact their local public
high school to gain admission. High school counselors are
familiar with the eligibility test and application deadlines.
