OVERVIEW OF PHARMACY

Overview of pharmacy with particular focus on the technician in pharmacy practice settings including job roles, resources and ethical standards of practice. [GE]

A MINI DOSE OF PHARMACY
PHAR 101 Spring 1.0 Credits

A preview of the practice of pharmacy. Identifies the role of the pharmacy tech, explores various pharmacy practice settings for employment, beginning basics of the language of pharmacy, both in written and oral forms. [GE]

INTRO TO PHARMACY
PHAR 105 Fall 4.0 Credits

Introduction to the role of the pharmacy technician in a variety of pharmacy practice settings including history, personnel, resources, andethical standards of pharmacy practice. Prerequisite: A grade of "C" or better in HEOC 125 and consent of Instructional Unit. [GE]

PHAR CALCULATIONS
PHAR 110 Spring 3.0 Credits
33 hours of lecture
Basic math and arithmetic skills as they relate to pharmacy practice.Calculations and manipulations of metrics and related dosages. Pharmacy topics related to mathematical functions are emphasized. Prerequisite: Consent of HEOC advisor. [GE]

PHAR I PRACTICE

Drugs useful in prevention, diagnosis and treatment of human disease,including their classification, dosage and therapeutic effects. Prerequisite: A grade of "C" or better in PHAR 105. [GE]

PHAR RECORDS MGMT
PHAR 114 Fall 4.0 Credits
33 hours of lecture
Pharmacy records and knowledge essential to the practice of pharmacy in the work site. Correlation of terminology, computer system manipulation, and practical application of pharmacy record keeping systems. Prerequisite: Consent of HEOC advisor. [GE]

PHAR EXTERNSHIP I
PHAR 118 Winter 4.0 Credits

Practical on-the-job instruction in the knowledge base required of a pharmacy assistant (technician) in the work force. Community pharmacies/facilities will be used for this course. Concurrent enrollment in PHAR 119 required. Prerequisite: A grade of "C" or better in PHAR 105 and consent of Instructional Unit. [GE]

PHAR EXTERNSHIP SEM I
PHAR 119 Winter 1.0 Credits

Discussion of issues surrounding the work site experiences in PHAR 118. Work ethics, interpersonal communication, problem-solving and success in the workplace emphasized. Concurrent enrollment in PHAR 118 and written consent of Instructional Unit required. [GE]

PHARMACOLOGY II

Continuation of PHAR 112. Drugs useful in prevention, diagnosis and treatment of human disease, including their classification, dosage, andtherapeutic effects. AIDS education, use of safety devices/environmental quality in the pharmacy setting. Prerequisite: completion of PHAR 112 and written consent of Instructional Unit required. [GE]

PHARMACY LAW

State and federal laws and regulations that pertain to the duties of pharmacy technicians. Revised Code of Washington and Washington Administrative Codes will be reviewed. Prerequisite: written consent of Instructional Unit required. [GE]

OTC DRUGS
PHAR 125 Winter 3.0 Credits
33 hours of lecture
Medications available to patients without prescription. Particular attention to those medications that have changed from legend to non-prescription products and those most frequently carried by local pharmacies. Prerequisite: written consent of instructional unit required. [GE]

STERILE PRODUCTS TECH
PHAR 127 Fall Spring 4.0 Credits
33 hours of lecture - 22 hours of lab
Sterile products information and aseptic admixture techniques. Care and maintainance of admixture equipment and the related facilities are presented in addition to the principles and practice of sterile product manipulation for the purpose of non-parenteral admistration of medications. [GE]
