GED SPECIAL TOPICS
GED 005 10.0 Credits
110 hours of lecture
Special interest topics at the GED level for students who qualify based upon CASAS Test scores. Topics vary and course may be repeated for credit for different topics.

GED WRITING
GED 011 Summer Fall Winter Spring 2.0 Credits
22 hours of lecture
Writing a well organized essay with paragraph organization, transitions, introduction and conclusion. Punctuation, capitalization, spelling, grammar, and sentence structure skills are emphasized. Test taking skills are taught and practiced. Fifth of five courses for improvement of basic skills in writing. This course can serve as preparation for the GED Writing Test or as a refresher course for basic skills improvement. Prerequisite: ABE 014 or recommending score on placement test.

GED WRITING II
GED 012 Summer Fall Winter Spring 2.0 Credits
22 hours of lecture

Elementary algebra, geometry, scientific notation, coordinate graphing, exponents and roots, solving equations, order of operations, and word problems requiring a wide range of math skills. Includes practice on Casio FX260 calculator (used in taking the GED Math Test). Last in aseries of courses for improvement of basic skills in math. This course can serve as preparation for the GED Math Test or as a refresher course for basic skills improvement. Prerequisite: ABE 024 or recommending score on placement test.

Prerequisite: ABE 034 Reading or recommending score on CASAS pretest.

GED READING-SOC STUDIES
GED 036 Summer Fall Winter 2.0 Credits

Emphasizes developing strong secondary reading and critical thinking skills with social studies materials. Exercises involve reading socialstudies passages and interpreting graphs, charts, maps, cartoons, diagrams, and photographs. Content includes world history, civics and government, economics and geography. This is the last in a series of courses in preparation for the GED Social Studies Test and may serve as a refresher for basic skills reading improvement. Prerequisite: ABE 044 Reading or recommending score on CASAS pretest.

GED READING-SCIENCE
GED 037 Summer Fall Winter Spring 2.0 Credits
22 hours of lecture
Developing strong secondary reading and critical thinking skills withscientific materials. Exercises involve reading scientific passages and interpreting graphs, charts, maps, and diagrams. Content includes earth and space science, life science, and physical science (physics and chemistry); the last in a series of courses in preparation for the GED Science Test, a refresher for basic skills reading improvement. I-BEST SUPPORT
GED 071 6.0 Credits
66 hours of lecture
Provides Basic Skills students extra instruction and support for success in their I-BEST designated classes. Reviews important concepts andvocabulary introduced during I-BEST classes. Provide opportunities todevelop culturally unfamiliar customer service and interaction skillsneeded to be successful in I-BEST occupations. Prerequisite: Admission into an I-BEST program.
