New coaches bring new energy to Clark softball

With a focus on success in the classroom and on the field,
Ty Singleton and Ted Buck will coach the student athletes on Clark’s softball team 

VANCOUVER, Wash. – Two respected and experienced athletics veterans are the new softball coaches at Clark College.  Head coach Ty Singleton and associate head coach Ted Buck are focused on winning experiences for Clark student athletes in 2012 and beyond.

Singleton was head softball coach at the University of New Mexico, University of Missouri, and Northwest State University in Louisiana, guiding his programs to four NCAA tournaments.  In 2003, while at the University of Missouri, Singleton was named Big 12 Coach of the Year.  Singleton spent three seasons as an assistant coach at the University of Texas. During that time, the Longhorns advanced to the NCAA College World Series in 1998 and won the Big 12 Tournament title in 1999.

Singleton earned an associate degree in science at Lower Columbia College, where he later served as an assistant coach.  He went on to earn a bachelor’s degree in education at the University of Portland and a master’s degree in theology from Fuller Theological Seminary in California.  He serves as youth director at St. John’s Presbyterian Church in Camas.

"I'm looking forward to working with the student athletes at Clark, and helping them develop on the field and in the classroom,” said Singleton. “Having coached all over the country for many years, I'm excited to be back ‘home’ and encouraged by the possibilities at Clark."

Ted Buck has nearly 30 years of experience as an athletic coach at the middle school, high school, club and college levels.  He has spent 20 of those years in the Camas School District, where he has served as athletic director and principal at Camas High School.  He currently teaches history and coaches.  In addition to his duties at the high school, Ted Buck is the parish associate at St. John's Presbyterian Church.

In 1992, Buck established the Camas High School softball program. Under his leadership, Camas softball teams placed in the top eight at state in four different years, winning the state championship in 2001.  He been involved with American Softball Association (ASA) softball for more than 10 years and has more than five years of teaching experience at college softball camps.  He has also served as a volleyball coach at the college and high school levels. 

“I enjoy coaching,” said Buck. “I am very excited about coming to Clark College and working with Ty to support Clark’s student athletes.”
