VANCOUVER, Wash. – Their cross country teams had championship seasons.  Now, student athletes Cameron Falkner and Briel Thoune have been honored as the November 2010 "Athletes of the Month" at Clark College.

Cross country coach Ryan Hovde praised Cameron Falkner for placing second overall as an individual competitor and for leading the men’s team to a Southern Regional Championship Title in Northwest Athletic Association of Community Colleges (NWAACC) competition. 

Hovde said, “Cameron's performance gave Clark back-to-back regional titles.  Cameron is a strong competitor, whose talent runs deep.  Only a freshman, Cameron has a bright future ahead of him.”        

This was Briel Thoune’s first competitive season in cross country – a season in which the Clark women’s team won the NWAACC championship.  Coach Hovde said, “Briel consistently ranked in the top five for all individual female runners in the NWAACC conference and took second place honors in the Southern Regional championships. She can look forward to a great future as a distance runner.”

The Student Athlete of the Month program recognizes both the academic and athletic achievements of Clark's student athletes. Two recipients are ­selected each month by a committee that includes Clark College coaches, athletic department personnel, and fellow students. 
   

Each honoree receives a jacket with his or her name embroidered on it.  The jackets are provided by Les Schwab through its support of the “Student Athlete of the Month” program, in partnership with Clark’s Penguin Athletic Club and the Clark College Foundation.
