Clark College Honors
April Student Athletes of the Month

Student athletes Tyler Lane and Lindsay Sasse
are honored for their leadership on Clark’s athletic teams

VANCOUVER, Wash. – Student athletes competing in softball and track and field have been honored as the April 2010 "Athletes of the Month" at Clark College.  Tyler Lane and Lindsay Sasse earned praise from coaches for their leadership oStudent Athlete of the Month Tyler Lanen and off the field.

A graduate of Skyview High School, freshman Tyler Lane is leading the Clark track and field team in jumping events. He has high jumped over 6 feet 9 inches, leading the NWAACC conference by six inches.

Head Track and Field Coach Amber Moore said, “Tyler is ranked third in long jump for the region and is a great contributor in the 4x100 team as well. He is a hard working, dedicated and willing to try any event to help the team be successful in any way possible.”

Moore added, “Tyler is a great addition to our program and I look forward to seeing him further his academic and athletic goals.”

Student Athlete of the Month Lindsay SasseLindsay Sasse came to Clark from Union High School in Camas.  Head softball coach Casey Powers describes Sasse as “a top performer both inside the classroom and on the softball field for us this year.”   Sasse earned a 4.0 grade point average (GPA) during fall 2009 and has maintained high GPAs throughout the academic year, earning an athletic scholarship.

Sasse’s primary position is outfield, but early in the season, she also filled in as a starting pitcher, collecting three wins in April as well as hitting .312 this season with ten runs batted in.  She provided one of the highlights of the month for Clark athletics when, throwing five innings as relief pitcher against Southwestern Oregon, she hit a grand slam in the sixth inning to put Clark ahead, 5-4.  Though the game ended in an eight-inning loss, Sasse only gave up one earned run in relief and batted in all five runs. Coach Powers added, “Lindsay is a hard working player who does not take herself too seriously and can laugh at her own mistakes and errors, but quickly refocuses and is striving to improve herself.  She is an absolute joy to coach and to be around this season.”

The Student Athlete of the Month program recognizes both the academic and athletic achievements of Clark's student athletes. Two recipients are selected each month by a committee that includes Clark College coaches, athletic department personnel, and fellow students.

Each honoree receives a jacket with his or her name embroidered on it.  The jackets are provided by Les Schwab through its support of the Student of the Month program, in partnership with Clark’s Penguin Athletic Club and the Clark College Foundation.
