The Music Department is pleased to debut the conducting of Dr. Jacob Funk, the newly hired tenure track Director of Choirs at Clark College. “There is something for everyone in this concert,” says Director Dr. Funk. “Our repertoire for the Women’s Choral Ensemble includes favorites such as “Carol of the Bells” as well as a refreshing setting of the Christian Rossetti test “In the Bleak Midwinter.” We have two pieces featuring the spirit of Noel, and we are excited to share with you a newly composed piece by Daniel Elder titled “Crystal Sky”, which captures the flurried journey of a snow flake.” The Chorale will present Vivaldi’s Magnificat accompanied by strings and oboes. Another highlight includes Eric William Barnum’s “Carol of the Angels” which expresses the expectation and excitement of the season. The piece “Stars” by Eriks is also featured on the program—it is an inspired setting of the Sara Teasdale poem by the same name and uses pitched wine glasses to accompany the choir. FREE ADMISSION!

3:00 pm
O'Connell Sports Center, Clark College
Dr. Jacob Funk directs the Concert Choir and Richard Inouye leads the Concert Band in a performance of seasonal works. “I am really excited about the music we are performing at this concert,” says Director Dr. Funk. “Juxtaposed between old and new will be the classic arrangement of a French Carol, What is this Lovely Fragrance? by Healey Willan, with the more contemporary Earth Song by Frank Ticheli. Another highlight will be an exciting fusion of ancient Latin text and contemporary harmony, featuring a collaboration with Clark College percussion students, on the newly published Gaudete by Michael Engelhardt.” A highlight for the College Concert Band is the wind band classic, Scenes from the Louvre, by Norman Dello Joio. Dello Joio’s transcription for wind band was inspired by the 1964 television documentary produced by NBC News called A Golden Prison: The Louvre, for which Dello Joio provided the soundtrack. The band will also perform a contemporary instrumental orchestration of Leonard Bernstein’s, A Simple Song, from his epic musical theater work, Mass. Free Admission!
