- Produced by the Falk Library of the Health Sciences, University of Pittsburgh. The links include acupuncture, chiropractic, homeopathic, herbal, and others. It includes information on listservs and newsgroups.

Consumer Health Sites

- This is a guide to health information provided by the Office
of Disease Prevention and Health Promotion. This US Government
site has a disease and drug databases.

Health Information
- Find information on hundreds of diseases, conditions and wellness
issues. Up-to-date, quality health care information from the world's
largest medical library, the National Library of Medicine in the
NLM's Medical Encyclopedia and other consumer information sources.

Government Agency Sites
- Centers for Disease Control
- This site includes Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report; Emerging Infectious Diseases; travelers' information; health statistics; and disease, health risks, and prevention guidelines and strategies.
- Department of Health and Human Services
- Included here are links to HHS Agencies, consumer information, GrantsNet, and research information.
- Federal Trade Commission
- Deals with issues realted to economic aspects of daily life, including consumer protection.
- Food and Drug Administration
- The FDA home page includes information on human and animal drugs, cosmetics, foods, toxicology, medical devices and radiological health, and inspections and imports. It contains much information about current topics, including new drugs, new therapies (i.e., aromatherapy), and guidelines for drugs/cosmetics/foods.
- National Center for Biotechnology Information
- This is GenBank on the web. It includes OMIM and searchers such as Entrez and BLAST, as well as BankIt, a way to submit new genetic sequences through the web. There is also a free MEDLINE, PubMed.
- National Institutes of Health
- The NIH home page includes links to the individual institutes and offices, health information such as CancerNet and AIDS related topics, and grants and contacts.
- National Library of Medicine
- HyperDOC, NLM's presence on the Web, includes information about NLM and other NIH services, research and development activities including the Visible Human project, and links to other sites of interest.
- Office of Disease Prevention and Health Promotion
- Promoting "Steps to a Healthier US," this site government agency works to strengthen health and wellness priorities.
- Office of Public Health and Science
- Home page for the Dept of health and Human Services, with links to 12 main public health offices, including the Surgeon General.

These search engines are set up to search health related web sites, other than MedBot, which is able to search up to four different search engines simultaneously.

- Health World Online
- Top-rated site for searching health information, including alternative therapies.
- HealthWeb
- This is a joint project of the Committee on Institutional Cooperation (CIC), which is the Big Ten schools and the University of Chicago. This is a directory of Internet health resources maintained by health sciences librarians. It includes medicine, nursing, dentistry, basic sciences, and allied health as well as consumer health.
- Medical Matrix: Guide to Internet Clinical Medicine Resources
- Developed by Gary Malet and Lee Hancock, this is a wonderful guide to clinical medicine on the Internet. It is designed as a "homepage" for health professionals, with links to clinical medicine, continuing education, electronic journals, and medical institutions. By subscription only.
- MedWeb:Biomedical Internet Resources
- Developed by Emory University, MedWeb has links to many other sites on the WWW.

- Merck Manual of Medical Information
- This is the online version of the Merck Manual of Medicine and is searchable by topic.

- Virtual Hospital
- A large variety of information presented by the University of Iowa College of Medicine, it includes information for patients and health professionals.

Medline on the Web
All of these sites are MEDLINE databases and all are free. Some of them include the entire MEDLINE database, some of them are subsets of the entire database. Some include other databases as well, such as AIDSLINE and CANCERLIT. They all have a different search interface.
- Medscape
- Health information for consumers on a variety of topics.
- MDchoice.com
- Health information for consumers and health professionals reviewed by a board of physicians. Information on various health conditions including allergies, children's illnesses, and cancer.
- PubMed
- The free database for medical information from the National Library of Medicine and the National Center for Biotechnology Information. Provides access to article citations and abstracts for over 4,600 biomedical journals from the mid-1960s to the present.

- American College of Nurse-Midwives
- National association of midwives. Site includes news about midwifery, information for practitioners, and information on pregnancy and childbirth for consumers.
American Nurses Association
- Variety of professional information for nurses including news and links to the association journal.
- AWHONN
- Association of Women's Health, Obstetric, and Neonatal Nurses. Includes information on education, new research, and professional resources.
- NMap: Nursing and health care
- The UK's gateway to high quality Internet resources for Nurses, Midwives and Allied Health Professions.
- OB/GYN Net
- News and information on women's health care.
- Nursing Center
- Includes career and employment information, as well as access to professional resources such as nursing journals.
