Exploring Ancient World Cultures
A college-level "textbook" of ancient world cultures produced by the University of Evansville, Indiana. Areas covered are the Near East,India, Egypt, China, Greece, Rome, Early Islam, and Medieval Europe. Included are primary texts, a chronology of the Ancient World, maps and images, computer-graded quizzes and links to other WWW sites on ancient world cultures.
Archaeological Sites of the Southwest
A list of links to prehistoric archaelogical sites in the "Four Corners"states - Colorado, Utah, Arizona, and New Mexico - that are on public lands and open to visitors. In addition to general information about each site, there are pages on the cultural backgrounds of the prehistoric peoples of the areas, images and geologic information.
ArchNet
Produced at the University of Connecticut, this site calls itself the "World Wide Web Virtual Library to Archaeology." Information is organized by geographic region and subject. There is a list of 70 museums and galleries that are coded by type of collections, a list of home pages of university anthropology departments, a Q&A section for Internet resources, including an e-mail directory for anthropologists and archaeologists. There is also a page for electronic journals, publishers and guides.
Fourth World Documentation Project: Indigenous Peoples' Information for the Online Community
This project was organized by the Center for World Indigenous Studies in 1992 in order to document and make available to tribal governments, researchers and organizations important documents to indigenous peoples. Over 400 documents on Fourth World nations, covering the Americas, Africa, Asia, Europe, Melanesia and the Pacific, are included in the archive. There are also links to other Indigenous resources such as governmental and NGO contacts.
Native American Sites
This site is the work of Lisa Mitten, Social Sciences Bibliographer at the University of Pittsburgh. Her page includes links to selected home pages on Native Americans and a monthly list of books on Native Peoples recently added to the University of Pittsburgh's Library. The Native American sites includes sites on individual Native Nations, Native organizations, tribal colleges, Native Studies programs, Indian education, media, and more.
Native Web
An extremely rich site whose stated purpose is "to provide a cyber-place for Earth's indigenous peoples." Categories are by subject, geography, Nations/Peoples, languages, education, law and legal issues, and much more. There are also full-text files of Native American literature and bibliographies on a wide variety of subjects.
