| Access to Textbooks for Students |
Textbooks
are, by far, the most valuable reserve item for students, especially those who cannot afford to buy expensive textbooks. During
summer quarter when the financial aid checks are delayed because it is the beginning of the new fiscal year, students are frantic to
borrow textbooks even if it is only for 2 hours to use in the library.
UNFORTUNATELY, THE LIBRARY ALSO CANNOT AFFORD TO BUY TEXTBOOKS, SO IF YOU WOULD LIKE A TEXTBOOK TO BE AVAILABLE FOR STUDENTS, YOU MUST PROVIDE A COPY TO BE PLACED ON RESERVE. If you or your department has any current textbooks to spare, please consider loaning them to the library for student use.
Very lucky students who plan ahead can sometimes borrow the textbook via Summit or interlibrary loan. However, most of the textbooks that Clark College is currently using are usually not available for loan, or have a very short loan period, or just take too long to get here. Items on loan to instructors by other libraries, cannot be placed on reserve unless the owning library grants specific permission. If permission is granted, the instructor would be responsible for any and all fines and/or penalties as assessed by the owning library.
As the end of the academic year approaches, please remember that your personal items can only be on reserve as long as the course is running. Unfortunately, we cannot store reserves over the summer or for a quarter while you are not teaching – we just don’t have enough space!
|
| Avoid a Fine! ... Return Reserves On Time! |
To enhance students' access, the timeline for incurring fines on overdue reserve items has been shortened. Also included in this change are DVDs and videotapes that students check out for 3 days with no renewals.
When an item is billed, the library charges a $15 overdue fine.
Instructors using audiovisual items for classes are exempt from this fine. However, to help increase availability, please return items on time. If there isn’t a booking on the item, faculty can renew DVDs and videotapes online or contact circulation staff at x2504 to arrange an extension. |
